Museums and Education
Gaps in educational programmes in Europe and Mercosur
Abstract
Museums play a fundamental role as spaces of education, facilitating the connection between formal and informal learning. However, significant differences are observed between Europe and Common Market of the South MERCOSUR in relation to the educational programmes they offer. In Europe, museums integrate advanced digital tools and inclusive methodology, thus promoting accessibility and cultural diversity. In contrast, in the MERCOSUR context they face challenges associated with resource scarcity and digital exclusion. This study, which adopts a qualitative-interpretative approach based on the PRISMA method, carries out a comparison of these realities. The findings indicate that European museums tend to prioritise technological innovation and international cooperation. In contrast, museums in the MERCOSUR emphasise the preservation of local culture and community inclusion, although they face limitations in terms of technological infrastructure. Despite these disparities, both contexts underline the relevance of adapting museums to the needs of their communities, thus fostering inclusive access to knowledge and culture. Strengthening collaboration between museums and educational institutions, as well as increasing investment in technology and training, is essential to maximise educational impact in both regions.
