SUMMARY: The Objective: To describe the characteristics of pediatric patients from 7 to 12 years in the post-operative periodo fappendicetomy, with infection of the surgical site, in the Surgical Clinic ServiceofthePediatric Hospital Dr. Avelino L. Castelan of the City of Resistance, Provinceof Chaco in the period from October 2016 to May 2017. Material and method: A cross-sectional, observational and descriptiv estudy in post-operated pediátrica pendectomy patients with surgical site infection in the Surgical Clinic Service of the Pediatric Hospital Dr. Avelino L. Castelan. Forthe data collection, a form was designed that contains the characterization a variable, the information was collected from the clinical histories. Forth estatistical analysis, the Excel program isused. Results: The frequency of infection of the surgical site was 50% (95% CI between 38.41 and 61.58%), itwas more frequent in themale sex 62.5%, the type of infection was 50% deepinfection and was more frequent in children. Conclusion: The frequency of SSI in pediatric patient sundergoing appendectomy is high, itis more frequent in male patients and in these, the type of infection that prevailed was deep infection.The hospital stay was prolonged, in most cases it was used for the treatment Metronidazole and Gentamicin, in combination with other less frequent antibiotics.
