CHARACTERISTICS AND FREQUENCY OF NURSING STAFF PRESENTING VARICOSE VEINS, IN PUBLIC HOSPITAL SERVICES OF CORRIENTES CAPITAL

Summary: The study was carried out to determine the characteristics of the nursing staff that presents varicose veins in the Emergency, Intensive Care and Medical Clinic services of the “José Francisco de San Martin” and “Juan Pablo II”
hospitals. The methodological design used was quantitative, descriptive, prospective, crosssectional and observational. Out of the total of 150 professionals who met the inclusion, exclusion and elimination criteria,
54 nurses were selected, and by a systematic probabilistic sampling, the data collection was carried out during the months of August and September of 2017, through a survey . The variables of varices frequency, age, sex, type of
varicose veins, length of service, and standing time were analyzed. Results: 70% (95% CI from 58.11% to 82.48%) presented VARICES. It was observed that the sex with the highest frequency of appearance was the female with 87%. The age of the nursing staff who presented varicose veins was, on average, 45.61 years. Regarding the type of varices, 25 nurses presented varicose veins of Grade I, 10 of Grade II and 3 of Grade III. About the variable Antiquity in the Service, an average of 13 years was identified. About Standing Time, nurses who stand for 7 hours represent 47%. Conclusions: The female sex, the age and the time of prolonged standing, are personal and labor characteristics present frequently in the sample analyzed.
