New method of estimation of pre-harvest yield in graniferous sorghum cultivation
Keywords:
productivity, yield prediction, leaf morphologyAbstract
In the absence of a practical and precise method for estimating pre-harvest yield of graniferous sorghum, it was proposed that such a procedure be developed. Samples of pan leaves from 23 graniferous sorghum hybrids were analyzed in which the correlations between different morphological variables and the weight of the grains contained in them were studied. The morphological variables evaluated were the diameter of the peduncle (DPP), the length (LP) and the width (AP) of the panicle. It was concluded that by means of a simple linear regression and using the DPP or the average AP of a sample of at least 50 panojas as the regressor variable, an accurate estimation of the weight of the grains in the panicle can be made.
