These notes cover some notions in which Nicasio Oroño was based, in the middle of XIXth. century to display his arguments towards the need to promote Santa Fe’s modernization.
In this way, Oroño’s figure seems specially atractive because his works are registered in the strong controversy between “civilization and barbarity” that kept River Plate’s intellectuals busy during a long part of that centrury, although in his case, from problems related to the Provincial State. On the other hand, because Oroño was a vigorous publicist and an active politician that occupied the center of Santa Fe’s political scene, at least for a decade.
