The reception of Late Antiquity in Film

The analysis of perception of ancient world through cinema currently constitutes a whole speciality on its own in the field of classical reception. When checking the abundant and growing bibliography on the issue let us see how the cinematographic reception of late Antiquity represents a minor percentage, but for works such as those of Martin Winkler or studies focused on a specific movie. This historiographical phenomenon is a projection of the also reduced number of titles displaying late Antiquity throughout the history of peplum, The aim of this contribution is analyzing late Antiquity reception in cinema, including the elements which characterize this period in seventh art, including in contrast with the displaying of other ancient world periods and features, all of it in order to emphasise this area of classical reception.
