Abstract

The objective of this paper is to show the results of several years of research on issues concerning the family in Latin America. In particular, from a gender point of view, we analyze couple relationships and their influence on children’s socialization.

Each socio-historical time promotes and supports the predominance of certain values, ideals and models that regulate the functioning of individuals and groups.

Thus, in each period, certain predominant forms of subjectivity as well as particular bonding functioning styles are built; with the differences that might arise from belonging to different geographical locations, races, religions or social classes.

The family is a system, an organization that functions as a whole and in which power relations are at stake. Thus, we ask ourselves: Are the socialization models adopted by parents reproduced by their children in the same way?
