Abstract

Objective: To analyze the variation in gastric cancer mortality rates in Chile following the implementation of the Explicit Health Guarantees Program within the Chilean Healthcare System, from its introduction in 2006 to 2022.

Metodology: A quantitative, analytical, retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted. A secondary analysis of gastric cancer mortality rates between 2000 and 2022 was performed. The technique used involved time series analysis with structural changes, using Chow statistical test. All deaths with gastric cancer as the primary cause were included.

Results: A structural change in the time series of standardized mortality due to gastric cancer in the population was identified through annual observations from 2000 to 2022, with a Chow test = 25.62; p-value of 1.572e-5; at a significance level of 0.05. It was identified in the year 2012.

Conclusion: Following the implementation of the Explicit Health Guarantees Program in 2006, a structural change in mortality analysis was observed, specifically related to gastric cancer, in the year 2012. Screening, coverage, access, and health promotion measures contributed to the reduction in mortality between 2012 and 2022.
