Abstract

The pandemic of Covid 19 has also reached the alps of Northern Italy in the Autonomous Province of Southern Tirol, a German speaking part neighbouring Austria. The change from normal functioning of a hospital attending all sorts of patients, touched the psychological services as well: The author trained in crisis intervention and psychological assistance in emergencies had to change his normal working modality – attending patients-into the modality of caring for the highly stressed nurses. He was able to introduce psychological support training nurse peers; by that the teams were able to turn back to a good and efficient functioning in spite of the heavy workload. Some deductions and reflections on a more organised assistance during the next wave are discussed.
