Author Biography

  • Guillermo Bodenbender, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba

Knowing the academic and scientific trajectory of Dr Guillermo Bodenbender, from his brief stay and doctorate in the University of Gottingen, Germany and his accomplishments during 58 years in Argentina. Living in Córdoba beginning in 1885, he developed an arduous teaching and scientific program, replacing Brackebush when he returned to Germany. As Profesor of Geology and Director of the Anthropology and Paleontology Museum, replacing Ameghino at the University of Córdoba, and as Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Bodenbender left an important body of scientific work, emphasizing his thoroughness and detailed exploration of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods of the main Cordillera from Neuquén to Mendoza and San Juan. Later, he focused on the Precordillera of La Rioja, San Juan, and Mendoza, pointing out the presence of marine Silurian and Devonian and gondwanic Upper Paleozoic with abundant fossil remains of plants. Ultimately, it is important to honor and highlight Bodenbender’s excellent work in the Sierras Pampeana, especially in the Sierra of Córdoba, the Sierra of los llanos of La Rioja, and the Nevado of Famatina (also in La Rioja), leaving excellent cartography and geologic profiles for serious consultation.
