Carlos R. Melo, Academia Nacional de Ciencias
Dr. Carlos Melo was the owner of a vast erudition, distilled from his own experience and drawn from a complex and harmonious study of life and books. He studied the facts with solicitous passion, but he did not stop there. From facts he jumped to principles and, by scientific discipline, he frequented, with insatiable curiosity, the most diverse sectors of human knowledge: jurisprudence and poetry, art and sociology, history and philosophy.
The donation of his private library, made available to scholars, should be used as an active tool for intellectual work and an inspiring source for young generations of university students eager to drink from the great classics of humanity.
