Abstract

Architectural serialism and pragmatic turn. Towards a concept of "serial architecture". In this paper we use the concept of series, originated in the aesthetic approaches critical to twentieth century music. We will try to understand certain aspects and scope of architecture and architecture project. Aspects and scope referred to how the performance of architecture would imply a specific class of knowledge about the world and architecture itself. Aspects and scope in which the public moment (or publicity) of the architectural project would be evidenced (the moment not subordinated to the technical performance and the interests of the private subjects). The formula that motivates and originates this article is the question of whether it exists, or can be said, of a "serial architecture", in the sense of the epistemological impact of musical serialism. Then, another question serves as a backbone to the arguments of this article: Does architecture reproduce or produce knowledge? To attempt an answer we will consider the architectural sign in the context of action, as prescribed by the philosophy of language or semiotics after the socalled pragmatic turn; using -together with the notion of “serie”- the concepts of enunciation and illocution.
