Abstract

Lichens grow on a wide variety of substrates, including man-made materials. This work focuses on lichens that are capable of growing on concrete. Lichens found on concrete, cement mortars and plaster of structures in urban and rural areas of several localities of the province of Buenos Aires were collected. The samples were observed under stereoscopic and optical microscopy and the usual histochemical reactions were performed and vegetative and reproductive characters were observed. A key was made emphasizing the characteristics characteristics that can be seen with the naked eye. Twenty-eight species were recorded, of which a short description is presented with additional description with additional characters not present in the key.
