Abstract

This essay dares to hypothesize that the brothers Christopher and Jonathan Nolan were inspired by Joseph Ratzinger’s thoughts on hope when writing the screenplay for the movie Interstellar. Citations show six conceptual similarities between the 2014 film and the Encyclical Letter Spe Salvi published in 2007. These convergences address the following themes: scientific progress and moral progress, the social nature of hope, trust, love as salvation, the reunion with loved ones beyond time, and the victory of good and eternity.
