Abstract

In his text: “The Ominous” Freud asks how is it possible that the familiar becomes ominous, terrifying, and under what conditions does it occur. To answer this question I will use a North American TV show called The undoing. The plot is about the story of a psychologist of couples who has been married for many years to a child oncologist and they have a son. Her happy and peaceful life is shattered when a woman is murdered and the main suspect is her husband. The protagonist not only finds out that her husband was cheating on her but that he could also be a murderer. The familiar becomes strange and disturbing. The series testifies about the emergence of this dimension for each of the characters and about what they do in the face of anguish.
