Gingival healing after gingivectomy

Abstract

The study dealt with the effects of sodium chloride on gingivectomies. Eighty patients were b·eated with crystals ind gargles ( Prinz' s formula) . The crystals were applied inmediately af't:er the gingivectomy, wmle the gargles were carried out every three hours. Patients in the same conditions served as controls: surgical cement was applied in six cases, and in another six cases no dressing on medication was used. Clinical, cytologic and hystologic controls were carried out 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours, and 6, 10 and 12 days after the operation. Twenty four hours postoperatively the wound was covered with fibrin ofan even thickness, and after 96 lhours acceptable healing was observed.
Jmmdiately or short1y after the operation, pain sensitivity was reduced O absent in the wound itse1f as well as in the unprotected neck. Mter comparing and evaluating the results obtained in the problem cases and in the controls, it was concluded that the use of sodium chloride is advantageous.
