Evidence-based medicine develops with sufficient international consensus on how to elaborate CPGs. This process begins with the delimitation of the subject matter of the CPG and starts the process of formulating recommendations based on the synthesis and evaluation of the best research. Objective: To write an review on the importance and development of clinical practice guidelines (CPG) in dentistry. Conclusion: During the process of development and improvement of the elaboration of CPGs, it has been through the intervention of institutions, professionals and experts, who have incorporated clear methodologies and the search for better standards. The constant evolution and development of these documents have managed to permeate the different fields of health, including dentistry.
