Effects of Low Power Laser Radiation on Rat Submandibular Gland Tumors: Histopathological and Histomorphometic
Keywords:
laser-rats-submandibular-tumorsAbstract
Salivary gland neoplasms affect the patient´s quality of life. Treatments for these tumors are quite restricted and present side effects. The cancer present, mutation wich producing an unrestrained cellular proliferation. Studies about the effects of Low Power Laser Therapy (LPLT) on salivary glands showed an apoptosis increase. So, LLT could be a recommended. therapy
Objective: to study histopatologyc an histomorphometric the effects of higher RLBP doses on malignant tumors induced with DMBA on the submandibular glands of rats. Materials and Methods: Sixty (60) male Wistar rats with a corporal weight of ±120 g was divided into two groups of thirty (30) a Control Group (CG) and an Experimental Group (EG). Each animal was anesthetized to surgically expose the submandibular glands wich were injected with 50 uL of DMBA. The rats from the CG were kept alive for 150 days post injection and those from EG after 150 days post injection the glands were exposed and then were irradiated with a LPR for 6. 5 minutes, and necropsied 12 hours post radiation, and the submandibular glands were extracted. 30 were fixed, following routine procedure and tinted with hematoxylin-eosin stains. The tissues were histopathologically and histomorphometically studied Results: All the tumors, were myoepithelial carcinoma cells. In the experimental groups, an increase of tumorous apoptotic cells in relation to the control group were detected. These indications were corroborated with the statistics histomorphometric analysis Conclusion: the results of the current study allow us to claim that the effect of RLBP on submandibular glands is y increasing the apoptotic process.
