Veins of the azygos venous system are highly variable in terms of their origins, course, communications, tributaries and termination. Lymphovenous communic-ations between the thoracic duct and the azygos venous system were revealed during dissection of a 92-year-old female Thiel-embalmed cadaver. The thoracic duct branched into two small lymph vessels which drained into the accessory hemiazygos vein at the levels of T9 and T8. These communications are clinically important as they might act as metastatic pathways from the lower part of the body to the lungs
