Abstract

The average of the proteins of the saliva of normal children of 6 to 11 years of age was of 377,2+80,5 mg.

per 1000 mi. That of those aTfected with simple or complicated lip clefts of the same ages vvas 573,2+266, and 5 to 6 days after ihe operation 481 + 181,6 being. significant the differences only between the normal and the sick children before the chirurgical intervention was undertaken. lt is though that the determinant factor can be the eyaporation of the water, due to the type of mouth breathing and the passage of the nasal mucus to the bucea! cavity¡ the decrease of the amount of proteins when restoring the lip and/or palatine, should be attributed to the elimination of the factors. Thes~ data should be completed with the dosage of electrolites and other substances in normal and sick children befare and after the operation, in orden to confirm this hypothesis
