Journal History
Antecedents
In 2002, CePIA (Arts Production and Research Center) was created. Since this moment, it has aimed at disseminating research projects and artistic practices that have arisen from the collaboration with other centers, laboratories, institutes, and academic bodies.
In 2012, "CePIA Journal”, the starting point of what today is Artilugio, was created. Issue #1, which was published in December 2012, included some sections that already reflected the spirit of Artilugio: “Reflexiones”, “Indeterminación”, “Proyectos” (today, “Seguimiento”), and “Entrevistas” (an audiovisual format that was eventually renamed to our present section “Diálogos”.) At that moment, the Editorial Team was formed by professionals with expertise in philosophy, the social sciences, and the arts: Agustina Buffa, Gabriela Carrión, Emilio Garbino, and Anastasio Pizarro Luna. Issue #2 called for articles that were encouraged to hold discussions about a central theme named “Political misinterpretation or debates over the presence of politics in the arts.”
Origins
Artilugio (ISSN 2408-462X) was born in 2014 to foster indeterminate creative dialogues of our own and provide an outlook on the productions, activities, and research carried out by CePIA. Here, we can find artists, producers, researchers, critics, and theorists that reflect on the processes and resources hidden behind artistic productions as a way of creating critical and discursive spaces. Our different sections are related to different ways of reflecting about the arts, incorporating in this way both the experimentation allowed by creation and the systematicity of academic research.
When EdFA (Faculty of Arts Publications) was created in 2022, Artilugio came to be sponsored both by EdFA and CePIA.
Format and software
The first issue of Artilugio was published in digital format at ISSUU. However, the creation of a website for our second issue enhanced our previous format and facilitated navigation, views, and downloads. Moreover, the journal was published in Open Journal Systems (OJS 2.4.6.0) through the Journal Portal of the National University of Córdoba. In 2019, the website migrated to OJS 3.1.2.4 and Artilugio started to be published in three different formats (PDF, HTML, and EPUB).
Changes in citation styles and bibliographic references
In 2014, the first call for papers did not require a specific citation style, although it suggested following EDUVIM’s style guide. From Issue #2 (2015) onwards, Turubian citation was used after a member of the Editorial Board suggested this system. In 2019, at the time of Artilugio’s Issue #5, unification was required for all journals belonging to the Faculty of Arts. From this moment on, citations, references, and bibliography came to follow APA Citation style -6th edition or later editions- (https://apastyle.apa.org/).
Changes in license
At first, Artilugio used Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 Argentina (CC BY-NC-ND 2.5 AR). Since Issue #3, we have used Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). From Issue #5 onwards, the Editorial Team decided to use Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) with the aim to broaden access and allow the inclusion of derivative works (such as translations).
Persistent identifiers
In 2019 (Issue #5), we incorporated Archival Resource Key (ARK) as a persistent identifier for Artilugio’s articles. Back in that time, Artilugio was part of a pilot project carried out in 2019 by CAICYT (Scientific and Technological Information Center) - CONICET (Argentine National Scientific and Technical Research Council) that aimed at assigning unique, persistent, and free identifiers to articles from national academic journals.
In 2022, since Issue #8, we incorporated DOI as a persistent identifier for Artilugio’s articles.

Our directors and editors
In its first issue (2014), Artilugio did not have a Director, nor an Editor. Instead, Lic. Marisa Restiffo (UNC) was the journal’s Coordinator. In 2015, with Issue #2, this position was split into two and transformed into two Co-coordinators: Lic. Magalí Vaca (UNC) and Lic. Carolina Cismondi (UNC). In 2018, with Issue #4, Lic. Magalí Vaca (UNC) became Artilugio’s Director and Lic. Carolina Cismondi (UNC) Artilugio’s Associate Director and Editor. With Issue #8 (2022), Lic. Carolina Cismondi (UNC) became the journal's Director and Editor.
